Young Adults and AdultsGold Coast Down Syndrome Organization recognizes the need for opportunities for those with Down syndrome and other developmental disabilities upon exit from school. This is an area of concern that has been identified and we continue to look for ways to engage our young adults and adults in the community through both leisure and employment.
In August 2007 we began a Health and Wellness Program for our Young Adults providing exercise with cardio and strength training instruction at the Boca Raton and Boynton Beach YMCA. We expanded this project to provide nutrition classes where individuals could learn how to make healthy food choices. These programs are no longer active, but we hope to begin them again in the near future. Please contact us for further information at gcdso@bellsouth.net or by phone 561-912-1231.
Please refer to our Recreation Opportunities page for leisure activities that may be appropriate for your adult son or daughter. We are anticipating a new project called Next Chapter Book Club for our adults will begin shortly.
At this time, we include our Young Adults in our Teen Club activities and if you are on our email list, you will receive information about what is going on for this group.
